Subfloor Preparation for Wood Flooring London
Get the base right and the floor stays flat, quiet and stable. Skip it and nothing else matters.
Moisture testing, levelling, plywood and damp-proof membranes before the floor goes down.
Wood flooring is only as good as what it sits on. Uneven screed shows up as hollow spots and lipping between boards; damp concrete makes boards swell and cup; loose old boards squeak through the new floor.
We test moisture in screeds and slabs, check levels with a straight edge and laser, and then recommend the right fix: levelling compound, plywood overlay, a liquid or sheet damp-proof membrane, or a combination.
What's included
Moisture testing
Readings on concrete, screed and timber so we know it's dry enough before we fit.
Level checks
Straight-edge and laser checks to find dips and humps that will show through.
Levelling compound
Self-levelling and smoothing compounds to bring floors flat and true.
Plywood overlay
Plywood screwed down over old boards to give a solid, flat base for gluing.
Damp-proof membranes
Liquid DPMs or sheet membranes where screeds are damp or ground floors need protecting.
Heights & thresholds
Planning the build-up so doors, kitchens and other floors still meet neatly.

Samples in your rooms, a quote with a name on it.
Pick a time that suits. The fitter comes to you, measures, checks the subfloor and brings the samples — then you get an honest price, usually the same day. No obligation.
